Al Ain Zoo
Description
Al Ain Zoo is one of the Middle East’s largest and most comprehensive wildlife parks — a sprawling 400-hectare conservation, exhibition and safari space located in the foothills of Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi. Established in 1968 and opened to public in 1972, the zoo was founded with a mission to protect regional wildlife — especially local species like the Arabian oryx and desert antelopes — while offering visitors a chance to discover global fauna in naturalistic habitats.
Inside Al Ain Zoo, more than 4,000 animals representing hundreds of species — mammals, reptiles, birds — roam across expansive enclosures, safari zones, aviaries, reptile houses and open habitats. Visitors can explore a mix of traditional zoo exhibits and immersive safari-style drives, including the vast “Al Ain Safari” zone, offering a closer look at lions, rhinos, giraffes, and a host of African and native species walking freely in a semi-wild environment.
Beyond mere sightseeing, the zoo emphasises education, conservation and environmental awareness. Through interactive exhibits, animal-encounter programs, feeding sessions, and guided safari or learning-centre tours, guests — especially families and children — can learn about endangered species, habitat preservation, and responsible animal care.
Whether you’re into up-close wildlife encounters, safari adventures, family outings or learning about ecology and conservation — Al Ain Zoo delivers a rich, varied and memorable wildlife experience, set amid desert-hills and natural landscapes quite unlike a typical theme park or urban zoo.
